TYPES OF ENERGY SAVING DEVICES

There are several types of energy-saving devices available in the maritime industry, ranging from advanced hull designs to energy management systems. These can be broadly divided into design-based, operational, and retrofit solutions.

Pre-swirl Fairing in Front of Propeller

A forward-mounted hydrodynamic energy-saving device. Composed of guide vanes and a duct, it is installed in front of the propeller, with its axis offset above the propeller shaft. Inside, it features four to five guide vanes that create pre-swirl flow. The duct surrounds the guide vanes, improving the uniformity of the propeller's inflow, increasing propeller-hull efficiency, and reducing rotational energy losses in the propeller's wake.

Fin on Propeller Hub Cap

A hydrodynamic energy saving device for marine propulsion systems that adds small blades to the propeller cap equal to the number of propeller blades. This device eliminates propeller wake vortexes and reduces hub vortex energy loss.

RUDDER BULB

A device that breaks up hub vortexes, restores pressure on the rudder bulb and rudder surfaces, and reduces wake rotational energy loss.
